Title:   Room 5 - Debris Deposit
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   55
Date:   2016/06/06
Stratum:   20% stones: 10% coarse pebbles, 10% medium pebbles; 20% tile
Description:   The soil color is dark greyish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   - 55 is slightly more compact and darker than 46.
- Excvation of soil reveals more compact reddish soil underneath possible floor level.
- Greater amount of tile and stones present in context than in 46 and 48, especially in middle of context.
- Sieving of soil stopped after 5 buckets since it is apparent we are still in later fill levels.
- Excavation of trench revealed possible rectangular built structure next to W. wall of Room 5 in the center of the space; more excavation is needed to reveal the nature of this structure, however, as only the top has been revealed so far.
-Small finds: 2 coins, bone, glass, iron piece
7/6/16
- Large threshold stone excavated in NW corner of room, although not expected here, as there does not seem to be an opening in the wall here. This does seem to be embedded in the floor, which is well-preserved here, and patchy in other places.
- Second coin found in SW quadrant (2016-163).
- Upon excavation of the entire room, most of the possible floor surface seems to now be revealed, with the exception of a few patches of stone and tile, possibly destruction debris. The largest deposit is in the SW corner of Room 5; this consists mainly of a deposit of tile, cobbles and large pebbles. This will be excavated as a separate context next.
- Measurements for threshold stone/door jamb: 1.04m x.33 m
