Title:   Room 7 - Top Deposit after 2015 Excavation
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   79
Date:   2016/06/09
Stratum:   Mixed soil. 15% tile fragments (e.g. 0.06 x 0.07 x 0.03; 0.12 x 0.02 x 0.08); less than 5% small rocks; some patches of clay; and an ash concentration in NW corner
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark yellowish grey. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   After cleaning the surface level of Room 7 on 7.6.16, we opened context 79 to investigate Room 7. We collected 4 pieces of glass, 2 of which were 2 small goblet pieces (0.03-0.035 long, 0.02-0.25 diameter); an iron nail; an iron blade; and some large tile fragments. There were patches of clay scattered throughout the deposit, including a large patch in the SE corner projecting about a meter from the S and E Walls (which turned out to be a different deposit). On our second pass through the area of 79, it was revealed that the clay deposit was much larger and comprised the entire southern section of the deposit, bounded by a possible wall running E-W at approximately 1492.1 N, from the E Wall (80) to the W Wall (82). This potential wall coincides with the Northern boundary of the clay deposit. We therefore decided to close context 79 and continued to excavate the darker, softer, lower clay content soil to the North of the clay deposit and possible wall as context 85.
