Description:   The soil color is light yellowish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   -New context opened in courtyard to N. of Room 5, in SE corner of courtyard. This was done to delineate the relationship of the courtyard with Room 5.
-3x3m square opened: courtyard will have to be sectioned because it is a large space.
-Area has been exposed since excavation last year, so is dry with some harder patches, but mostly soft.
-Earth underneath context 83 slightly softer but largely the same color. There seems to be harder patches in the western side and north-central section of the trench; these also seem to be redder than the rest of trench underneath context 83. In SE corner, exposed earth is softer and more reddish. Elsewhere, exposed earth is darker and more black.
-Exposed earth also more reddish and soft in SW corner of trench.
Finds: glass, iron nail, bone

We decided to extend the excavation area in the courtyard since another team of workmen was available. Context 87 is the continuation of 83, however we had to leave a srip of deposit between 83 and 87 because the two excavation areas are of different size and we want to prevent contamination.
