Description: | The soil color is dark brownish white. It is clay. Structure materials: Marl, limestone, tile, stone (? - only 1 stone and 1 tile extant). Material size: 0.25 x 0.15 x 0.40 (stone); 0.10 x 0.14 x 0.02 (tile). Material finish: roughly hewn. Material bonding: clay mud.
Notes: | Related Contexts: 89, 93, 101, 106 58.52 is the elevation at the top of the rim of the hearth, which was generally lower than our top elevation, which was taken atop a stone that appears to be part of the hearth, but possibly is not. See drawing in notes for Context 93 for section drawing of hearth and its relationship to 89, 93, 97, 101, 106, and 114. Bottom of hearth made of hard marl. Shape very distinct at this lower level, but its upper form unknown-- perhaps partly constructed with stone and tile, though only one of each remain extant in situ. Context 93 (overlying the hearth) was a soil very high in clay content with many hard compacted clay inclusions-- presumably this soil is a product of the collapse/destruction of the hearth's upper structure.
