Title:   Room 1 - Pit South of Cistern
Notebook:   1111
Context:   9
Date:   2016/05/31
Description:   The context shape in plan is irregular. The top break of the cut is gradual. The sides of the cut are concave. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered blunt point. Truncation: Unclear whether the pit is truncated by cistern or if pit surrounds cistern structure..
Notes:   Thanasis our pickman detected the edge of the pit easily because the soil was so hard and compact. The difference in soil continued sloping down at different degrees of decline throughout the area (beneath context 4). It is unclear to us whether the pit actually continues to encompass the cistern or if the cistern has truncated the pit. It had been suggested that the pit might be part of a cut formed in order to construct the cistern, but we are now reconsidering that possibility.
