This wall is being recorded as part of a plan to apply to have walls removed in this part of the site in order to reveal the 11th century AD phase of a house for public display. Wall 10087 is currently interpretted as part of the 11th century phase of the house (the east exterior wall) and so will not be removed. This wall was revealed in excavations in 1961 recorded in NB 229. It was given wall #27 in 1961 and appears on a sketch in NB 229, pg. 188, as the same wall as 10078. When Travlos planned this wall, he shows it running to the north where it stops at wall 10091. It is difficult at present to confirm this interpretation as this part of the site is overgrown and in a poor state of preservation. Threshold 10092 certainly belongs with the first phase of this wall. However the construction of the wall varies significantly from south of the threshold to north of it. South of the threshold (what I am defining as wall 10087) the building materials are much smaller than north of the threshold where enormous squared limestone blocks are used. Are the two from different phases? Wall 10087 appears to bond with wall 10090 but cleaning of this area would better show their relationship.
