Description:   Top slope of the context is level down to the S. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context is the removal of the large tile layer to the south of the Turkish house. We theorize that this layer resulted from some sort of destruction event, or a dump of material after such an event. The tile layer abuts the S wall of the Turkish house, so by excavating it, we hope to be able to relate this area to the layers excavated on the other side of the wall in the 1960s. The deposit has very abundant tile, averaging L. 0.21-0.26 m, W. 0.07-0.14 m, and Th. 0.025-0.03 m. The tiles were not laid flat, but instead rather jumbled. Among the tiels were also large pieces of amphorae and other vessels. Additionally, we found a large, ovoid fragment of a marble sculpture or piece of architecture and a bronze coin.
The exact relationship of this tile layer to the tiels at the edge of former cut 871 and the area to its south is currently unknown, but it appears that this layer may represent a separate destruction event which overlays the tiles to the south. The tiles at the bottom of pit 871 are larger and better preserved, and several are also laying flat, in contrast to the tiles in this context. However, the tiles south of the area of the former pit are more broken and are jumbled in a manner similar to the current context.
As excavation continued, we noticed that the tiles were very dense at the top of the context and more sparse (but still numerous) towards the bottom of the context. We continued excavating until we reached the light yellowish-brown layer with no visible tiles below. The tile layer did continue to the west, as visible in the scarp of the excavation area.

Important context for pottery- similar to gymnasium area near the Asclepion, but they dug in trenches and were not always able to match it up; also some tiny contexts in the Panayia field.
