Stratum:   Pebbles, ceramics, bone, carbon, iron, figurine, coin, and bronze
Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We are excavating this context in order to reveal more of the dump fill under the surface revealed in 1092 We hope to take this area (East part of the trench) to the level of the layer under 1084 which appears to continue under this deposit. It will also clarify this context's relation to cut 1098 along the wall.
This soil is loose and dark with a moderate amount of pebbles and small cobbles/ There is some pottery mixed in/ This context was possible the result of melted mud brick.

We are continuing to remove the layer this morning. We are coming down to the same level as the layer underneath 1084 to the wst (as we had suspected would happed). We found bits of iron, including a nailhead and a coin. We also changed the amount we sieved from 50-20% because the fill is not very material rich/ The surface under 1084 does not continue under the entire trench. The soil on the east side has fewer pebble inclusions, is darker and looser than the west. As we reached the bottom of the context, it appears that the north and eastern parts of the next layer is the same type of soil as the earlier layers (e.g. 1092, 1099) while the southwestern area is flatter and contains fewer inclusions. A worked stone object was convered.
