Stratum:   soil was silty but so mixed with ash that it was difficult to determine its exact composition. It was more than 50% ash. Worked marble revetment, bronze pieces, glass, nails, coin
Description:   Top slope of the context is sharp down to the W. The soil color is dark reddish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is mixed- see description.
Notes:   We are excavating this context to reveal the surface underneath that we believe will be analogous to the W surface revealed after excavating 1103 (context 1105). This layer is very ashy and loose. It is dark and dusty. There is very little in this soil beyound a few rocks. Because much organic matter was found in the burned layer, we will float 100% of this.
The layer under the floor slopes sharply upwards and is very dark red. It appears to be analogous to the layer under 1102. It has very large tile and ceramic inclusions.
