Description:   Top slope of the context is medium down to the S. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is a very large context that stretches from area 1103 in the East to pit 870 in the West. This is a dark destruction layer rife with large tile and ceramic fragments and stones. It is likely filled with the detritus of fallen mudbrick. We are excavating it to determine its relationship to the layer discovered under 1103. It is very large and irregular and has inclusions of ash; it is almost certainly a destruction layer.
Heavy ash was discovered in the far SW. We will take a flotation sample. This asky layer is much denser in the W, but does not appear to be completely homogenous. However, the majority of it is a dark red. We found a lot of glass, metal, and large chunks of pottery. Loomweights and a large slab of pebble pavement were also found. The pebble pavement has white, blue, red, and black rounded stones set in concrete. It measures 0.515 x 0.29 x 0.11 m. There are also several loom weights and much glass. This is a very rich, but mixed dump fill. We found several seeds in the dry sieving of the area approximately beneath hearth 1065. This area is in a slight, roughly round depression.
We closed the context when we came down to an uneven hard, clayey red layer. This undulates wildly.
