Stratum:   angular cobbles and stones 40%; tile 10%; pottery; cut architectural pieces, glass, bone, charcoal
Description:   The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This is a very mixed, loose fill which seems to be the remainder of the robbing trench fill to the east of wall 1087. No cut number was ever given to this activity, and the fills have been removed by various teams in the past two seasons. (During session 1 of 2013, vigorous cleaning immediately above this context resulted in the removal of a layer of soil of uncertain content, shape, and depth, which accordingly never received a proper context number.)
Our contribution, 1177, is a triangular swath immediately north of the lime pit 886 which was truncated by the trench (and wall 1087?), although Thanasis excavated into the area immediately under the lime pit while chasing the rocks--so this deposit predates the lime pit, which was set on top of it? Blocks certainly extended over the line of the wall and under the lime deposit.
We could also see looking under the area of the lime pit from the north that this rocky deposit does not continue to the east but rather stops about 0.85m from the east edge of the pit.
With further cleaning, the large cut stones and architectural pieces almost look to have fallen off wall 1087 to the south. The style of this wall has much spoliated material as these blocks seem to be. Among the blocks are two joining pieces of what looks to be a short altar with lower molding with two preserved corners (0.40 length x 0.32 width x 0.22 height) and a large section of a brick floor (0.043 x 0.042 x 0.08 thick), with bricks 0.09 x 0.045 x 0.04, partially covered by a thin plaster layer.
After removing the rest of the blocks and soil, we exposed the beginning of what appears to be a tile destruction layer which we hope resembles 1080 and 1046, and continues south under the area of the lime pit.
