MASONRY DESCRIPTION:
Materials: Squared limestones blocks, tile fragments, and clay.
Size of Materials: Limestone blocks: avg. 32 x 31 x 11 cm; tile fragments: avg. 13 x 14 x 3.5 cm.
Facing: Squared, rough-faced.
Coursing: Only one course is preserved; limestone blocks above layer of tiles laid directly on a clay surface.
Interpretation: Wall above a floor surface. [Later note: we do think that B124 is bedding for the wall, not a clay floor per se].
Direction of faces: N/A.
Bonding: Whitish clay.
Dimentions of feature: E-W: 124 cm; N-S: 152 cm.
Further Notes: a. The wall appears to have been damaged by later plowing and irrigation trenches. The east wall is missing several blocks above the layer of tiles, and the northeast corner of the top of the north wall has been cut back at an angle. Furthermore, the uppermost clay deposits (B26=B86) inside the oven bounded by wall B123 were scored by plow furrows (B22) and the cut of an irrigation trench (B18).
b. No foundation trench was found.
EXCAVATION NOTES:
The clay matrix, the bonding agent for the limestone blocks and tiles, is a light yellowish grey and very soft.
