| Notes: | This small strip of soil, which lies between the end of N-S wall 1222 and the standing remains of wall 1087, we initially thought to be a continuation of wall 1222. However, as we excavated context 1227 to the east and the pink team excavated 1233 to the west, it became clear that there were no real stones here to constitute the wall; it is unclear whether the wall never extended this far north or whether it was robbed or crumbled. The latter is more plausible at this stage since the wall doesn't have a clean finished end. We think Pink's 1233 and our 1227 will be equivalent, but we are awaiting pottery reading to make a definitive statement. After noticing that this strip was not wall, we continued to use it as a skin baulk between Blue and Pink, but as Pink finished excavation for the end of the season, this was no longer an issue and it was time to remove this little bit so it could be properly represented in its context. We closed this context after articulating around the end of the wall and finding what looked like the continuation of the wall at a lower elevation immediately south of wall 1087. | |
