Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. Bottom slope of the context is uneven down to the The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The removal of B131 revealed 2 pairs of cuts, which meet almost perpendicularly. These cuts are almost certainly cuts for robbing trenches, and may represent the same trench for robbed out walls which meet in a corner.
We began by digging the N-S running arm of the trench. This trench is bounded by a large square block visible from the surface at the trench's southernmost edge within the excavation area. We later discovered that these two trenches indeed do link up (there is no change in the soil between the N-S arm and the E-W arm), and so continued digging the E-W running arm with this basket. Kleomenis came down on another large squared block next to the block that was revealed with B115. Both have circular depressions on their north sides. These depressions appear to be pivot holes for doors. These blocks could feasibly be reused in this N-S wall; but if they are not, this is almost certainly a threshold.
When we were relatively sure that it was a robbing trench we were digging, we decided to dry sieve the rest of the basket. Several large stones (10 or more), most of them showing signs of being worked, were left in the trench for the time being even though they were not in place in the wall - just loose in the robbing trench fill.
Kleomenis began to come down on a layer that looked more churned up, with different inclusions (more tile), and pockets of clay and pockets of black soil. Many of the stones that were found and left in were left because they were embedded in this next layer. When we reached this layer, we changed baskets.
