Stratum:   dark yellowish brown soil with lighter clay areas, 10% inclusions of pebbles and small cobbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. Bottom slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We excavated this clayey soil at the northern end of the N-S wall at c. 269E to determine whether the exposed stones were part of the wall or whether the superficially circular arrangement of soil and stones indicated some other feature (e.g. a well). The removal of a few cm of fill revealed a cluster of irregular large stones (0.2 to 0.3m) not in line with the wall and lacking apparent organization. Several tile fragments were also interspersed as were a few roots (0.002 to 0.006m in diameter).
