Notes: | Structure 243 is a wall that runs E-W across the excavation area and that the east end turns a corner at a 90 degree angle to the north. The wall continues into the west scarp of our excavation area and ends at the north where the north scarp drops off. The N-W part of the wall preserves only the foundation course. A large area of this has been destroyed by the presence of roots, leaving only the corner of the wall and the north end of the wall intact. This foundation course was excavated as its own structure (266) The E-W part preserves a course above the foundations that is constructed of larger and more worked stones. A second wall (Structure 244) abuts Structure 243 on the south side of the corner and continues south a short distance before turning a corner to the east. This second wall is of a different construction and, as it does not bond with Structure 243, is clearly a later addition. The portion of this wall over the water pipe was a later repair to replace the section removed for the pipe. This was excavated as 253. The foundation stones, at least the bottom layer, were still intact under the pipe. We decided to remove this wall after the excavation of the water pipe and fill (258, 259) and the N-S wall (244) was removed.
