Stratum:   70% sub rounded boulders, pebbles, tiles, plaster/concrete
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Context 250 consisted of light greenish brown soil mixed with some light greyish white plaster/concrete. The soil was full of large boulders + pieces of concrete and pieces of tile. It immediately overlaid the drainage pipe to the N of the E-W wall. The pipe itself was laying directly on top of the context underneath 250. The context contained several tree roots.
We left a ca. 0.50m baulk against the edge of pit 249 so that excavation of the pit could progress.
There was a layer of plaster against the pipe and possibly beneath it. Excavation of the context below shoulw show whether a cut was made for laying the pipe, which was likely set in plaster and possibly covered in plaster, as some plaster still clings to the sides and top of the pipe.
Upon closer inspection, the plaster against the pipeis the same as the rest of 250, not packing material.
A small area with different soil was found N of the wall in exactly the same place and shape as context 245. Further excavation is needed.
The balk Eastern baulk, (see above) was taken out as 252.
After further excavation it becomes clear that this dep. Is the same as that to the S and that beneath the water pipe (265,274). Therefore, str. 243 cut this context, as did the laying of the pipe (258), which required removal of a section of 243. The fill was then re-deposited over the pipe and used when repairng the wall, being so soft that no cutting was discernable.
