Area:   Nezi Field
Context Type:   Fill
Title:   fill overlying foundation trench
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1101
Context:   278

Date:   2008/05/14
Stratum:   50% angular medium pebbles, lots of tile, larger cobbles and boulders
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The dark yellowish brown soil, which was quite soft, was full of tiles and other debris. We remove it, partially to better see the foundation trench which is partially covered by this context.
We also excavate to find the eastern limit of this fill which is not readily apparent. Part of the fill is also somewhat obscured by the barrow ramp built coming out of the southern limit of the excavation.
We come down upon a very yellow clay layer to the south of the foundation trench. Further to the S large boulders are present.
The robbing trench cut is not visible to E.
Along the S edge near the scarp a cuttin appears. This area needs further investigation as it is obstructed by the wheelbarrow ramp.
