Context:   282

Date:   2008/05/14
Stratum:   mostly pebbles of mixed shapes and sizes, some small cobbles, a few subangular boulders, a few small pieces of tile 30% also, a few large cobbles/small boulders
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context is a fill inside a semi-circular structure. This fill was defined to the N and W during the removal of context 278 and 280. The fill is bounded by the structure on the E, and spills out on the W. This fill should perhaps not be associated with the usage period of the semi-circular structure, so whe choose not to sieve this context.
Panos does a shallow pass, showing that the soil is different and has different inclusions than the soils outside of the structure in all directions, N, S, E and W. The soil is the same after this first pass, so we take another pass as this same context. At the bottom of this second pass, Panos comes down on some boulders to the W that may come close to making this semi-circular of stones a full circle. We reserve judgement, however, until the completion of this pass. We finish the pass, and now all the stones of the semi-circular strucutre (now=Structure 283) are pedastaled. The structure is only one course oc stones. We found no deposit clearly associated with its use, only fill inside it. The stones revealed on the W are lower than the stones of Structure 283. These stones may just be fill, or they may be remnants of an earlier N-S wall. Either way, we leave them in place for now, and close this context.
