Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the WThe soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   On the morning of the 23rd I marked off another quadrant of the area cut by plow furrows (B22) to remove, this time to the NW. Andreas is working on this while Billy and Thanasis continue with B27, the SE quadrant of the furrowed area. In consultation with Alicia we decided to excavate the soil actually cut by furrows first, and to leave the ridge to the north of them to be dug last. The soil looks exactly the same in both of these areas, but we will be safe and dig the furrowed 1/2 first in case we want to change baskets before the dig the area that is not cut by furrows. As happened in B23, some tiles came up in the west part of B30, but not lying flat. Most likely they were churned up by plowing. As Andreas continued digging east, more tiles began to appear, along with larger stones (cobbles). The workmen switched to a small pick and broom when they reached what looked to be the tile scatter which was revealed with B23. After more careful picking and cleaning, the tile fragments on the surface in this area appear to be very different from the tiles in the tile scatter to the south. These tiles do not lay horizontally on the ground but are all churned up and mixed with cobbles. This deposit is round in plan and looks to be the fill of a pit. [Later excavated with B36, it is indeed the fill of a pit].
Plan change: The ridge is going ot be dug as a different basket (B26) because B30 was already finished by the time Alicia had a good look at it. Rather than add to B30, Alicia decided to dig this part of the ridge as a separate basket (B34).
