Context:   411

Stratum:   cobbles, pebbles, tile pottery and a few boulders 60%
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish grey. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We open context 411 to dig a silty fill. This fill is equivalent to context 401. When we dug 401, we had sectioned this silty fill, leaving 411. Due to heave rain and hail last everning, we find it impossible to continue excavation further to the S, where had previously decided to concentrate our efforts. So, we begin excavation of the rest of this silty fill, since it isn't quite so we this morning in this area.
11/6/08: We continue with context 411. A few possible structures are discovered. An E-W 'wall' running into the E scarp, a wall running N-S in the far north (which also seems to have a surface with destruction debris on top oif it to the E), a stone water pipe runing NW-SE and a N-S wall partially revleaed underneath context 401. Also, in the E scarp, we have a a possible plaster floor. Elsewhere, we have come down on to a few different despoits. IN the SW, there are many tiles W of the newly revealed possible N-S wall. In the N, around the area of a stone-built water pipe, there is a pebbley deposit. As mentioned above, to the E of the N-S wall in the N, there is a small patch of surface with tiles on top. Elsewhere, the soils seem mixed and would require more definition before further excavation. [For drawing of these features and coordinates, see end of season plan or top plans for contexts 425 & 426].
12/6/2008: We extend this context futher N up to the line of cut 267 for wall 243, and a bit to the E in the NE corner. In this NE corner, Panos uncovers more floor covered partially by tile. Also, Panos has revealed a pit cut into this floor. We do not have the full line of this pit, however, because it runs into our arbitrary E scarp. Finally, the large stone W of this floor, and the couple of smaller sontes south of it, do not seem so positively to be a wall; we may still have a truncated wall here, but it is uncertain.
