Stratum:   20% very poorly sorted inclusions of small to medium pebbles (subrounded and angular), tile fragments, bone frgaments (more than in B40) and pottery sherds in a light, yellowish brown, soft, loose sandy soil
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the NThe soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   After B40 was closed and bottom elevations taken Cleomenes started excavating B42. He removed B42 from E to W in doing so he further defined the extent and nature of the area of cobble inclusions shown on the plan for B42 that borders B40 at its extreme easting. This cobble-dense deposit is not part of a larger feature (they are a contained context) so they will be removed with B42.
To better define the boundary between B42 and the white layer under B28 Cleomenes excavated all the eastern most section of B42 down to the next stratum, a harder black soil layer. In doing so he also defined the border between the white layer under B28 and the new harder black layer.
We expect to find the continuation and northern terminus of the robbering trench from B40 after removing the section of B42 that we think is lying on top of it. After removing this layer of B42 Cleomenes did uncover the continuation and northern terminus of the robbering trench. The trench's northern terminus is the edge of H. Robinson's 1961 excavation escarpment.
Work continues in B42 on 26/4/07 with Cleomenes continuing to remove B42. Working from E to W he is removing the remnants of B42 while constantly defining its interface with the new layer below it and its borders with other neighboring contexts.
Cleomenes found a coin at El. 86.64, 1013.52 N, and 269.05 E.
The removal of B42 revealed more tile fragments. Directly N of these tile fragments were more tile fragments but with the addition of large cobbles. The rocks and tiles are present up until the southern boundary of the white soil area (B ).
