Stratum:   pebbles (subangular and subrounded).
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is stongly cemented. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Context 461 is located on the E side of the pebbly deposit just S of cut 272 and between drain 426 and the remnants of a robbed wall. The goal in digging this area was to clarify the extent of a possible pebbled floor surface which seems to be visible under context 460 on the W side of drain 426. The possible floor surface under 460 is laid on another pebbly deposit that contains a light red soil. Removal of the pebbly surface of 461 sought to determine if it was laid on a similar flat floor surface. Scrapping with a trowel revealed a pebbly deposit with red soil similar to that under the floor opposite the drain (426). If there was a clearer floor surface here it may have been previously damaged. 461 also confirmed a cut for the passage of drain 426 to the N, indicating that drain 426 and its cut post-date the possible floor. We are now moving to excavate the fill of the drain cut and closing this context.
