Stratum:   90% land snail shells; few tiles; small angular and subangular pebbles, I large cobble 1 boulder
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish black. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This context is the excavation of the fill of a pit located in the NW part of Nezi field, north of cut 272. The pit fill is characterized by a concentration of land-snail shells (a 15 L sample was sent for water sieving) and it was partically overlaid by contexts 490 and 491. The removal of these contexts exposed the full extent of the cut for the pit as well as a possible surface (bottom of 491). The matrix of the pit fill consists of a very loose soil which is in contrast with the walls of the pit which are made from a more compacted soil.
In the process of excavation of the pit fill, we uncovered a layer of stones, small and larger cobbles and pieces of tile; they seem to be thrown in the pit. On the eastern side of the pit there is a patch of clay between the large stones; it is possible that this indicates building material thrown in the pit. We closed this context when the rocks and clayey soil cover the full extent of the pit. We will continue removing the pit fill with the rocks as a separate context.
