Stratum:   A mix of soil and organic debris that has accumulated in this space (Room F, NB 228) since excavation ended here in 1961. Modern inclusions like beer bottle caps.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. Bottom slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is mixed. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Cleaning of accumulated debris since 1961 begins today in this space, called "Room F" in NB 228.
The debris is very loose and dark in color with organic matter and grass/weeds growing in it.
The debris comes down on a harder, redder soil which overlies a true floor (visible on W edge of NB 228's Bothros #4) that is made of a thick layer of smooth plaster. The harder red soil may prove to be modern accumulation as well, but we are leaving it in place for the moment.
This space was defined as a room, Room F, by the excavators in 1961 but the walls bounding this space may not all be from the same phase of construction.
3 pits were dug into this room/space, excavated in 1961 as Bothros #4 (easternmost), Bothros #6 (center), and Bothros #7 (westernmost).
A large clay pithos was installed below floor level -- if the floor noted above is contemporary with the pithos -- the rim of the pithos would be at floor level.
Priorities for excavation in this space: 1) reveal floor and determine its relationship to existing walls and clay pithos; 2) determine phasing and relationship of walls to greater area; 3) determine if "Room F" is a true room confined by 4 contemporary walls.
