Stratum:   Mix of sandy silt with organic materials (especially shells), very soft with 20% inclusions (sherds) under a covering of weeds and mossy overgrowth. Includes accumulated material, since the 1961 excavations.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. Bottom slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The area was excavated in 1961. Debris accumulated since then is removed along with the topsoil.
Cleaning of the area started today with the removal by hoe of the plant growth down to a clean, silty level which was then excavated with trowels. This soil is very soft and has abundant shells and ceramic sherds (20% inclusions).
This is defined as the "West Half of Room F" (designated as Room F by the 1961 excavators) and includes Bothros #7 (the westernmost) and Bothros #6 which cuts into the section of wall in the E end of the "West Half" and therefore lies half in the "West Half" and half in the "East Half."
North of Bothros #7 is a mound of earth densely packed with sherds. It may have been excavated from Bothros #7 and dumped there (see B 5027 - B 5048).. In the NE corner of the room was a soft pile of soil also containing many sherds but not as well packed as the mound N of Bothros #7.
A column fragment was resting on the floor between Bothroi #6 and #7.
The level excavated is below the level of the plaster floor in the East Half of Room F, with no evidence of more of this floor.
Priorities: 1) determine the relationship of the wall on the E end of the room to the room itslef and the bothroi; 2) excavate the mound and the bothroi - are they related? 3) Relate Room F to Room E and the larger area. 4) Phase the walls and use of space.
