Stratum:   Soft dark reddish brown soil with 40% inclusions: broken tiles, stones, roots.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the SEThe soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are taking the reddish layer beside the clayey floor - or the flat clayey deposit in the E end of the room. We are trying to establish whether this layer cuts the clay or the clay this layer.
This red layer appears to overlay a nice surface, perhaps a floor. We are finding coins (minimi and a follis) and a lot of sherds.
This layer appears to continue W through the room N of Room F, W. We are trying to find its extent.
The high number of coins from this context is very notable. Among the 5th century coins was one well-preserved Trajanic coin.
[Pottery reading: Most of the pottery is 3rd/4th, but micaceous water jar toe is late, and so is the Palestinian white painted jar. There's not a strong case for making it 3rd/4th or 5th/6th either. We're going with mid 6th c., but pottery of this period in Corinth is not well understood.]
