Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Nezi Field, context 5082
Area:   Nezi Field
Title:   Destruction context, Room N of Room F W
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1100
Context:   5082
Page:   0
Date:   2007/05/18
Stratum:   Reddish brown soil with 40% inclusions - most are broken rooftiles.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the NThe soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating the area we have been referring to as a destructive zone. We are pulling out large tile pieces, which we are saving temporarily to count and weigh.
We are trying to clarify whether this is a destruction context and if so, the sequence in relation to the destruction of the crosswall and the associated contexts.
There is some carbon in the soil.
We are now able to confirm that the crosswall predates the N wall of Room F, W, because while the crosswall forms a boundary for the destruction material - and therefore predates the destruction - the destruction material continues under the N wall of Room F, W, which must have been built over it at some later date.
We left the area on the S face of the N wall of Room F, W at this level unexcavated. It would repay excavation at some future time however because the destruction context may continue into Room F, W proper, at least E of the crosswall but perhaps more to the W as well. I am unable to excavate that area at this time.
We are closing this basket because the soil changes. It is the last excavated context in this area at this time.
