| Stratum: | 15% inclusions of pebbles and some small cobbles, some small tile fragments - patches of mixed fill with dark black (carbon) and others with white clay. | |
| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. Bottom slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | The fill of the pit was clearly cut into the surrounding strata including floor/surface as we excavated, and contained large quantities of glass fragments of very fine molded bowls etc.. There was evidence of ash and fine charcoal as well as apparent burning damage to the fragments of wall plaster. Near the bottom of the pit, we came upon a small marble bust c. 0.20m face downward in the fill with the top oriented toward the southeast. | |
