Stratum: | Medium to large pottery (20%), medium to coarse pebbles (20%), with some cobbles. Pebbles were mostly spherical and subrounded. Little carbon, little wall plaster.
Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish red. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | We are cleaning the area in Room E that is E of the drain, S of W26, N of W29, and W of W16. Soil is appearing harder and redder in the center-west, darker and looser in the E. A strip of black and red has appeared near the center. Loomweight found in the NE corner on top of a stone which may belong to a wall. Metal: much of it is iron nails, some of them large. Pottery quite mixed. At the end of the basket, more red and soft in center and west-center, with more stones/pebbles within this red area to the NE. There is a small ashy area in the center south. In the center east it is darker but neither the red nor the black appears to go over one another, but instead have a vertical interface. The hypothesis is that the red is dumped material, somewhat mixed in nature, while the dark soil may be a later hole or even removal of an installation because there are signs of earlier walls outside the SE corner of the room.
