Stratum:   30% medium subangular pebbles, tiles, carbon inclusions, pottery bones
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark pinkish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context 519 is the second form the top pit fill of cut 527. The pit is located in the room bounded by walls 313 to the east and 332 to the west. The pit is located north of the pit cut 526 and it seems that it truncated the pit cut 526. It should be noted that the pit fill 519 is equal to deposit 509 that was partially excavated out of sequence previously.
Also, context 514 (mudbrick deposit) overlaid contexts 509 and 519. We think that context 514 was fill of the same pit ( cut 527) and was truncated by pit cut 513. Context 514 was the first from the top fill of the pit cut 527 and 519 is the 2nd from the top pit fil of the same pit.
The matrix of this context is very rich in inclusions. There are lots of bones and small finds (iron, bronze) as well as tiles and small cobbles. The excavation of context 519 revealed boulders that cover about 70% of the bottom of the context. We noticed that there were gaps underneath and in between the boulders. This might indicate that this is either a well or the bottom of a pit. The diameter of the pit, however, seems a bit large for a well. We closed this context when we reached a soil change. We will proceed with the excavation of top deposit 520.
Later notes, 15 May 2009, SD/JC
At the time of excavation of pit fills 519 and 520 we thought that pit cut 527 was later and cut into pit cut 526 and 528. However, with the excavation of contexts 521, 522 and 524 we realized that pit cut 527 and its fills (509, 519, 520) are actually earlier and cut by pit cut 528 and 526.
