Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   We are looking for a floor to the west of the N-S wall, under the destruction debris 5229. There is a flat tile area--possibly a floor, which appears in this context (5234) and is close to the pithos to the far west that was revealed in the 1960's excavations. We started at the S end and excavated toward the N towards the pithos. North of the pithos is a low lying wall with an East/West orientation. This E/W wall was also exposed in the 1960's excavation and is a approximately 25cm wide and constructed without mortar. In future excavations, it will be necessary to figure out the phase of this wall and how it relates to the phasing of our most recent excavation. Just east of the pithos and south of the aforementioned E/W is a pit structure, possibly a hearth, filled with roof tiles and surrounded by ash. Once again, at some point, this hearth needs to be excavated and its floor context identified. At this point, we were asked by the excavation directors to take a cleaning context to the far south (5237) and afterward, return to the east of the N/S oriented wall.
