Stratum:   10% tile, pottery, medium rounded tabular pebbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We are now excavating the fill of a perceived subfloor south of Wall 5216. The soil is a consistent dark reddish brown. We are taking off the soil in passes because the soil below our last 2 context lenses was consistent with the soil around it. Our soil is also turning up flecks of charcoal. By doing a pass, we hope to discern new evident contexts. We are turning up a bit of mudbrick. A piece of lead and a fragment of a glass rim are found. Throughout this context, we are exposing tiles that lie flat on the ground. They do not look like they belong to separate discrete deposits. The tiles are most pronounced in the SE and SW corners. The soft soil was deeper in the N central part of the context, and we decided to penetrate deeper there. This soft soil was consistent with that of the rest of our context, different from the compact redder soil beneath.
After one pass we stop because a cut at the N end of the context just S of Wall 5221 (Cut 5236) and the scarp left from digging context 5211.
Stop here to explore the fill of this cut.
