Description:   The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We excavated this layer to try and understand the function of the line of stones and how they related to our pit structure 5239/5204
The stones appear in the most northern part of our excavation and are oriented N-S. The one course of stones, the largest measuring 30cm by 23 (making it a boulder according to the maunual), sits on a thin layer (less than a centimeter) of clayey silt (comes out in big chunks perhaps because it is moister) which may function as the bonding material which then overlies a layer of hard clay (5263). Removal of the stones and their related soil produced a level, hard, floor-like deposit extending from the eastern limit (the 1960's scarp) of the area to the west 1'40''m.
