Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We excavated this layer 5263 to try and understand the floor layers on the North section of the excavation area and how 1) it differs from the floors in the southern section 2) if we can learn anything more about cut/structure (5204/5239) and 3) the relationship of the boulder adjacent to the cut/structure to the west. The boulder had a patch of pink clayey material which might have been a remnant of mud-brick, though we did not have any other mud-brick in the area or similar pinkish clay to compare. Once again, this boulder was part of the northern scarp created during the 1960's excavations and therefore exposed to natural processes and plants that may have led to the formation of this pink clay patch. The removed and was not part of 5204/5239 or an any undiscovered wall. Excavation also revealed what turned out to be a robbing trench (5267 is the fill of the robbing trench) of the E-W wall that has cut the excavation area into north and south areas since our first day of work. The heterogenous mixture of material in this context (5263) suggests it is dumped leveling debris for the floors which overlaid 5263.
In addition the clay that made upthe top of 5204/5239 was part of the removal of 5263
