| Description: | Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | 1) We are trying to figure out whether this area with rooftiles (5271) cuts the whiter clay to the East (5301) or vice verse and how it relates to the small pits in the South (5200/5199), whether it is the same level as the North floors, which have less tiles. From the scarps to the East created by the 1960's excavation and from inside the large central pit, it looks like the section of reddish soil (5322) far underneath this context continues under the clay floor to the E (5301), and has many rooftiles on the West side (5271). This area (5271) was was cut by 5200 on the south. 2) It is possible that 5271 is destruction debris used as leveling fill for a floor. The floor-like surfaces of 5214 and 5189 overlie 5271. 3) This area contained 26n=4.5 kg of rooftiles 4) There was another layer (5283) of roof tiles which 5271 overlies. We do not have a good understanding of why rooftiles should be concentrated only in the West side along the N-S wall. Boundaries clear: 5271 has more roof tiles than the layer it overlies (5283). | |
