Stratum: | Inclusions are fine to large pebbles, cobbles, All shapes. 10%
Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | We are removing the remaining soft soil overlying and surrounding the plaster and clay surface. To the west, there is soil with many inclusions that cuts under the firm soil to the south. But we are focused on the soft deposit over the floor. As we remove it, we can discern a distinct line between the clay/plaster and the tile laden soil extending south under the firm soil. In the corner of Walls 5284 and 5285, the clayey surface extends and ends. The floor definitely bonds with 5285 and is associated with at least one phase in which the wall was used. Actually, it even appears that the floor goes under the top block of the wall. What it bonds with Wall 5284 is unclear. Since the firm soil to the south overlies the soil with many inclusions, we will excavatte this deposit next (5377). Although the floor is previously unexcavated, the fill was deposited during the 1960s excavations. It should be regarded as modern backfill.
