| Stratum: | 5% inclusions of poorly sorted pottery sherds, bone fragments, and shell in a very dark yellowish to reddish brown soft, loose sandy silt. Small angular and subrounded pebbles are also present. | |
| Description: | Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the SEThe soil color is very dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | After closing the robber's Trench, B52, on 27/04/07 we decided to remove the lense of very dark brown soil, B53, N. of the EW wall as this deposit is the next stratagraphic unit to be removed (nothing else overlies it or cuts it and it overlies several other deposits). B53 was a shallow lense of small dimensions (see above). Cleomenes excavated it in a short period of time. In doing so he further defined the borders of B55, the ashy stony deposit N of the EW wall with very dark brown soil, the brown soil deposit W of B53, later excavated with B56, as well as the deposit of reddish soil E of the white soil deposit both of which have the 1960's escarpment as their N. borders. | |
