Stratum:   70%: roof tile, small to medium pebbles.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Deposit 5472 is a layer characterized by the concentration of rooftile fragments it contains. The deposit extends from Wall 5411 at the northernmost point down to Wall 5216, which forms its southern boundary. To the East the deposit is truncated by the cut for the foundation trench for Wall 5284, which runs along it western face. To the west, the deposit is truncated by the following: the creation and subsequent excavation of a pit (Bothros 18, NB 254, p. ), the excavation of the deposits in which the pit was dug.
The roof tiles ae being reserved during excavation in order to look for joins in the fragments. This seems relevent to the interpretation of the deposition of the tiles, as it is unclear at this point whether it represents a collapse of a structure or dumped destruction fill. Preliminary examination of the tile fragments reveals several different types of tile and no obviously joining fragments that may compose a complete tile. This favors the latter interpretation that the tile horizon represents a layer of dumped destruction debris. Also, it may be noted that the fragments at the south end are slighly smaller and lie less regularly than those at the North of the deposit.
Tile: 560 frgt., 102.30 kg.
The removal of deposit 5472 reveals blocks underneath Wall 5216 at the south edge of the deposit. These blocks are roughly hewn and do not fall in alignment with the fair N face of Wall 5216, rather they jut out 0.19 m from the face. These blocks may be associated with a block on the south side of Wall 5216, which was revealed by the removal of the fill of the foundation trench on th south side of the wall (Cut 5269).
