Date:   2008/05/15
Stratum:   Ceramics; stones (small-coarse angular spherical pebbles); 30% inclusions
Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. It is clayey silt. Structure materials: Limestone, tile. Material size: 0.42 by 0.31 by 0.34 0.14 by 0.08 by 0.03. Material finish: Roughly hewn blocks and field stone. Material construction: Random, built to course.. Material bonding: None. Features: None.
Notes:   This wall overlies a tile surface to the south. This wall appears to end at its east end when it transitions into a different wall with its own masonry style. This wall to the east has more regular tile and stone courses. The Wall begins at its west at 265.85E and ends in transition at 269.65. It may be built upon an earlier wall, but it is difficult to tell at this moment. In any case, a lowe course extends 0.90 m to the west at a lower elevation. The wall is a random built to course and roughly hewn construction with no bonding material. It must be removed before we can proceed to excavate th tile layer beneath it.
The tile surface continues northward under the wall and seems to constitute its resting surface. A similar deposit of tile surface was detected north of Wall 61G (N of Nezi 5508) in the previous session and excavated as context 5324. It is expected that this floor surface is the continuation of the tile floor to the south of the wall and evidence that the wall is a later feature than the floor surface.
LATER NOTES (5-4-09):
This wall was removed in order to continue excavation south of the courtyard. Beneath this short stretch of wall is a stratified sequence of the floors, which have been excavated in the courtyard. These will be treated as separate contexts, which will be eqivalent to the floor surfaces in the courtyard. This wall was not removed until this year, since the proper permit had to be received. The entire contents of this wall were dry-sieved.
