Title:   Martyr in west end of EW drain, 2nd deposit
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1101
Context:   5592
Page:   0
Date:   2008/06/13
Stratum:   10%: fine-small pebbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is very dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   The drain fill deposit 5592 was left as a martyr between the drain fill 5651and well #2 (5864) excavated in the 1960s and as the cleaning basket 5848 demonstrated, was backfilled with hummus. The soil composition and compaction were consistent with the fill 5651. Removal of the drain fill martyr 5592 revealed the western extent of the drain and clearly shows that the drain is truncated by the cut for well #2 5864. From this it is evident that the drain is earlier than the well/manhole.
