Stratum:   42% total inclusions; 15% tile, 20% fine pebbles-cobbles, rounded, angular, spherical-platy, 5% pottery, 2% ash, minimal bone
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating this surface because it goes over a possible floor surface (5811) revealed by 5762. It is too uneven and contains too many large inclusions (tile, stones) to be a floor surface, but it is compact and has ash settled on top, indicating that it was used as a surface even if only temporarily. While excavating we came across two small patches of ashy very ashy dirt. Underneath this layer we revealed soil with lots of ash. Both layers are cut by a foundation trench for wall 5483, which we will excavate next.
