| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish black. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | We are excavating this ashy fill because the cut (5772) in which it fills, this cut (5772) cuts the fill of the robbing trench (5777) and the robbing trench cut (5802). This ashy fill has few inclusions, no bone, and very fragmented pottery. The removal of this ash fill revealed a circular pit (5776) with another deposit of ash fill (5775). It should be noted that cut 5772 undercut structure 5457. In other words, we have excavated out of sequence. We did this to avoid complications with the ministry due to the size of the blocks that make up 5457. Most of fill 5769 was contained within pit cut 5772, a N-S oriented pit. The pit cut was shallow and it is likely that is was dug against a pre-existing wall, perhaps wall 5353. It is important to note that the interface of 5769 with the robbing trench fill 5777. It is clear that 5769 overlies 5777. | |
