Stratum:   15% inclusions: fragmented pottery (< .10), ash, charcoal flecks, bits of marl, fragmented roof tile (< .18), mixed cobbles.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating this context to bring the area around the hearth (5838) level with the floor-like surface to the south exposed by the removal of 5234. Excavation of 5841 will remove the hearth structure due to the fact that it was a pit dug down into 5841, and there is no evidence of a more permanent installation.
We are calling this deposit a surface of walked on leveling fill. The top of 5841 is in no way ubiquitous or smooth enough to look like a floor, and is too compact to be leveling fill. This surface abuts wall 5677 and 5842 throughout the extent of context 5841. In the southern part of 5841, the surface thins and tapers and becomes the sruface first revealed by the 5234, which is the same surface revealed by 5841 to the north.
With the excavation of 5841, a disturbed, uneven surface was uncovered which had a few embebbed, large cobbles and embedded flat lying roof tile. This surface covers the whole area and abuts walls 5842, 5677, and 5678.
A cut was revealed in the northern part of the context directly under the hearth. It appears to be the cut to place the pithos into the ground.
