Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We ceased excavation of basket 5855 because of a difference in color of the fill soil. As we continued to remove the fill, we uncovered more large boulders and large cobbles, generally directed in a N-S line.
Because the excavation of the last two contexts has defined a distinct N boundary for this robbing event, we appear to be dealing with two separate N-S trenches. We had already suggested that this was the case because of the way that the E-W pit cut appeared to intersect with the N and S trenches, but it is confirmed by the edge that the pickman has defined.
There is still some question about the line of the N-S robbing trench, so our next move is to explore some of the upper levels in order to determine whether we can clarify those boundaries and ensure that we have confidently define the walls as they existed.
