Name:   Nezi Field, context 5860
Area:   Nezi Field
Context Type:   Surface
Title:   A disturbed floor level
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1101
Context:   5860
Page:   0
Date:   2008/06/11
Stratum:   15% inclusions: fragmented roof tile (<.14m), some pottery (<.10m), cobbles: spherical angular/tabular, one large cobble (.20m) of jurassic limestone, one animal bone.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating this disturbed floor level which is cut by 5851 . The western limit of the context is defined by a martyr created by CKW (see notebook 253 p. 136). The eastern limit is the west-face of wall 5677. The north and south limits are defined by wall 5842 and 5678, respectively.
The surface revealed by the removal of 5860 is also a disturbed floor-like deposit. In the south, there are scattered, flat lying roof tiles (<.24m). As you go north, ther is a gravel patch which includes small cobbles mixed in. This gravel patch abuts a square feature (5888) constructed of small boulders (<.24m) and pieces of roof tiles (<.30m) and one flat lying piece of schist. The dimensions of this feature are .75m L by .60m W. The stratum exposed by the removal of 5860 abuts wall 5677. There is also bits of clay within the soil matrix of the floor revealed by 5860.
In the northern part of the context, we uncovered a cut and its fill. The cut follows the e-w orientation of pit cut 5851 and runs up to and abuts wall 5677. The fill (5869) is a greenish brown and distinct from the surrounding greyish brown soil. We will excavate this fill next to see if we cut 5851 may have been cut into an earlier foundation trench or robbing trench.
