Description: | Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | We are excavating to roof tile fill south of structure 5888, under 5879. So far it has revealed a density of roof tiles and large cobbles. On top of this density, in the corner where wall 5678 and 5562 meet, a number of iron objects were found within the fill. Also, with the iron objects, 2 articulated Artiodactyl vertebrae were uncovered in situ. Perhaps it is refuse left in a corner of room? The problem with this hypothesis is that the iron objects are not lying on a floor surface (as in Jody and Nat's area where they found a couple of iron objects associated with two articulated Artiodactyl vertebrae lying on a floor. As excavation continued in the area of the iron objects, a whole cache of iron was recovered, more than 50 pieces. Nicole the conservator came out to remove them and James Herbst drew them in situ. There are door lock covers, many nails, and other tools that will be identified after cleaning. This context is not finished. We had to stop due to the iron objects that were recovered on the last day of excavation Also, in order to remove the objects, we had to dig around and under them. A small circular pit in the SE corner of the context with a diameter of about 1 meter appears. Roof tiles: 112n=25kg
