Context:   605

Date:   2009/06/05
Stratum:   40% fine0coarse angular and subrounded pebbles, cobbles, rooftile fragments
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The levelling fill deposit 605 is a stratum of sandy silt with chunky inclusions in the room bounded by walls 306, 305, 365, 332. This is the deposit revealed by the removal of the tile rich lens 603 and the levelling fill 503. No floor associated with the 4 walls of this space has yet been e ncountered and it is not expected that the rmoval of thefill 505 will reveal one; it rather it seems that the removal of the fill 505 will reveal the foundation courses of the wall 365, such that there is no preserved floor associated with either phase of wall 365, e.i. the first phase with the doorway or the second in which the doorway is filled in. We might speculate that the room is severely disturbed as neither floors not foundation trenches seem to be preserved. The removal of the fill 505 revealed the foundations of both wall 305 and 365. It also uncovered more of the drain 426, though this feature is only noted in the north portion of the room and then seems to be interrupted. Two distinct deposits were revealed; one is more compact with chucnks of mortar in the west part of the room, the other is darker with more inclusions and a softer compaction and extends over to wall 332.
