Stratum:   This sandy silt had some small patches of clay; the firm compaction may be due in part to the rain on this day. The soil had 10% inclusions of angular stones, rounded and sub-rounded pebbles, small pieces of bone, small pieces of pottery, and charcoal fr
Description:   The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This context was covered by 6238. It seems also to be foundation fill, however the soil was much firmer, so a new context was made. The excavation of this context shows that the orientation of the stones underneath was the same as the stones' orientations revealed after the excavation- two fair/worked faces and rubble in the center. However, there was an observable discrepancy in the widths of the two sections. Therefore, rather than regarding the stones revealed during the excavation of this context as part of wall 6233, we are regarding them as two separate structures (or phases of structure). This also helps to explain the presence of a single round, projecting stone to the south of the section - it could be support for higher wall 6233. One more note- the stones revealed by 6242 appear to go beneath context 6233, to be removed next. It is hoped that excavation of 6233 will reveal their relationship more clearly, since a second working hypothesis for these two walls was that they were actually a single wall, that subsequently had more wall sections built around it.
