| Notes: | Context 6251 is a cleaning at the southern end of the courtyard of the Byzantine house, south of wall 5783. This area has been the majro artery of traffic throughout the excavation and requires this cleaning to begin excavation of the surfaces beneath. Somewhere beneath this surface is an intact vessel, still intered which was noted last year (excavated as part of context 6262). The contexts avove this context excavated in 2008 were 5536, 5501, and 5630. GDRS determined after observing excavation of this context that it should be considered a deposit since Thanasis excavated more than would be suitable for a cleaning. Also, enough pottery was recovered that we may be able to establish a date for this fill. AC informed us that some sieved dirt was deposited here last year, so it seems we are excavating accumulated silt and perhaps a small fill context underneath. Thus, we are tentatively placing this context in the Harris matrix, but we will not use this as a firm dating criterion. Context 6251 could be related to context 5691, but they were not connected which could be result of later disturbances. | |
